THE LIFE OF STANCLIFFE RILEY
by Frazer Flintham for The Forward Theatre Project

@ Sun 3pm – The Little Traveller (2hr)

Set in the north-west costal village of Little Newbay (fictional) Stancliffe Riley, a 30 year old ‘walking disaster’, pays his mother one last visit before finally throwing himself off the end of the seafront pier. When Stancliffe wakes to find he has failed once again – he is faced with a discovery that throws his entire past into question.

THE LIFE OF STANCLIFFE RILEY is a human story about despair and hope, fate and chance – A pursuit for answers in a seemingly faithless age.

THE GOLDEN COWPAT
by Hal Chamber

@ Sat 4pm – Traveller (30mins)

@ Sun 11am – Traveller (30 mins)

The Golden Cowpat follows Betty, a moody cow who lives on a remote farm. Her owner is the hapless farmer, Hector, who has long since given up on a life of success. He manages his cows and moans, groans, rants and wallows. One day Betty lays a golden cowpat and Hector realises that Betty is the key to a prosperous future. Together they set off over the hills of the countryside to find the wizard. The mysterious wizard sees that Betty is a very special cow and predicts an exciting yet perilous future. Betty and her determined farmer head off on an epic quest which brings them to a town where they become the centre of attention. Little do they know that a conniving, gold-digging figure has been tracking their journey and soon will try and tempt Betty with a world of fame and fortune in the city! Will Betty and Hector become tempted by all of the offers of riches and in the process lose the thing that they had come to hold most dear… their friendship?

The Golden Cowpat is about what it means to be happy in our modern world and the dangerous influence of greed. Robin Hemmings is an experienced performer, storyteller and a very silly man. Come and listen to him weave a magical story in an intimate setting. Think The Lion King meets Spirited Away meetsAlicein Wonderland!

THE FASTEST TRAIN TO ANYWHERE
by Alexander Wright, from The Flanagan Collective

@ Sat 1pm – Winterhouse (45mins)

A story about dislocation, adventures and where the wind might take us.

A man sets foot on a train just as it is pulling out of the platform. He has never got this train before. He doesn’t know why he is on it; he normally just goes home after work. The journey is relentless, but it is liberating. He walks with giants, swims through coral and dances with naiads in the dark by candlelight. Occasionally the train stops for a cigarette break.

The Fastest Train To Anywhere can take you to many places, but it can never take you back to where you came from, it can never take you home. One day it will drop you off as easily as it picked you up. And so he has been dropped off here. He has his suit, his hat and his briefcase that he was carrying home from work. And so, now, he should start his journey home. But he has no idea where home is anymore.

Sophie Mac (McDonnell).

I am my own side project in terms of acoustic gigs. Full time Hot Fudge front-woman (I say full time, I attempt A-levels from time to time, as well as play sax for A Joker’s Rage.)

I’ve always been a singer/songwriter but since writing ‘Iron Man’ that doesn’t suit the Fudge genre, I have been doing acoustic slots throughoutYork, mainly Stereo, due to the sweet ass tones that place has for acoustic music!

I pretty much turn up, plug in and chillax when I do solo gigs, so it makes a nice change from the stress of organising 4 other people.

Where but the ladies’ toilets would you expect to find the half-drowned Ophelia and Virginia Woolf wallowing in the memory of their watery demise?

Just back from the Edinburgh Fringe Festival where they picked up a Total Theatre Award for Emerging Company, Point Associate Artists ShadyJane will be presenting glimpses of their show, Sailing On. The toilets are transformed as sinks become set, hand dryers become soundtracks and toilets become props.

ShadyJane is an all female performance collective walking between story and experience. They specialise in interacting with their audiences and transforming spaces to tell the stories of women from history, literature and the phone book.

‘If it is originality and inventiveness you seek, then Sailing On is the show for you’ – ThreeWeeks
